Why Choose an Orthodontist? & Why Morrone & Kaye?

February 25th, 2019

Why Choose an Orthodontist?

In this day of digital purchasing and with the desire to save money, we all spend time on the internet searching for the best possible “deal”.  There are lots of low-cost providers out there who want you to believe that you get the same result and level of care, for less money, by not going to an orthodontist.

So, what value do you gain from hands-on treatment with an orthodontist?  Below are some of the intangibles to consider.

  1. The results you get are dependent on the skill level of the doctor.  Only an orthodontist is professionally trained (for 3 years) in the movement of teeth.  It’s as simple as that.
  2. Straightening teeth without addressing bite problems can give you a better looking smile - and a host of long-term oral health issues.  Orthodontists are experts in proper bite alignment. Don’t risk the long-term condition of your teeth for a cheap price.
  3. Orthodontists look at the underlying reason for a problem, not just the problem itself.  Otherwise, problems will return. Our goal is to beautify your smile – and also fix it.
  4. Orthodontists monitor treatment closely with regular office visits.  They are there to listen and help along the way, just in case there is a problem.
  5. Orthodontists realize there are many options in treatment materials and techniques and that one way is not good for everyone.  They understand the differences, make recommendations and help with your decision.
  6. In orthodontics, as with all buying decisions, you get one opportunity to have this done properly.  It’s a big commitment, both in terms of time and financial investment. Choose wisely.

Why Choose Morrone & Kaye Orthodontics?

  1. Practice makes perfect, and we have been in practice for over 30 years.  We have been able to fine-tune our communication and treatment skills to provide an outstanding experience.   Just look at our reviews. We do more Invisalign than 98% of all providers.
  2. We have the most up-to-date equipment to make your life safer and easier.   We are paperless and fully digital, with no more goopy impressions.
  3. We give back to our families:  in effort, in skill and in contests.  We invite all of you into our home to join our family.   Come in, sit back, and enjoy coffee, tea or hot chocolate while you are on your phone or computer via our Wi-Fi, playing video games, checking out our fish tank or just chit-chatting with your neighbors.
  4. We give back to our communities:  Whether it is donating locally for a dance recital, flag football tournament, a charitable organization or to Project Graduation, we realize all these groups make our communities special.
  5. We have contests year round and loads of winners.   A free weekend in Atlantic City, concert tickets, sporting events, and movie tickets just to name a few.
  6. Our staff and doctors are the best, bar none!  We challenge you to find a more caring experience.

Finally, we deliver what you are paying for: an outstanding result.

Read This Before Ordering Orthodontic Treatment Online

These days you can do almost anything with the click of a button. Order school supplies. Get a ride across town. Watch your favorite movie.  Order food delivery. It seems like every day there’s a newer and easier way to do almost everything. We’ve been programmed to accept that anything can be ordered online and delivered right to your front door. However, at Morrone & Kaye Orthodontics, there is one thing that we believe has no easy replacement: orthodontic treatment. There is no match for trained, experienced professionals when it comes to your dental health.

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) agrees. They recently issued a Consumer Alert listing key questions to ask about direct-to-consumer orthodontic companies. You can download a print-friendly version here.

The issue is that many direct-to-consumer orthodontic companies do not involve the in-person evaluation and/or in-person supervision of your treatment we provide at Morrone & Kaye Orthodontics. This type of supervision is important because there is more to creating a healthy, beautiful smile than moving the visible portions of your teeth. If not done correctly any dental work can lead to potentially irreversible and expensive damage such as tooth and gum loss, changes to your facial profile, and other issues. An orthodontist like Dr. Morrone or Dr. Kaye has many tools in his or her arsenal to help create your beautiful smile - Invisalign, for example, is just one of them. It’s important to have a fully qualified and certified orthodontist involved when making any changes to your teeth.

The Top 10 Questions To Ask

The AAO advises that when researching orthodontic treatment (including treatment models from direct-to-consumer companies like SmileDirectClub, Candid Co., Smilelove, SnapCorrect, Orthly, etc), you should consider many key questions, some of which include:

  1. As part of your treatment, are comprehensive diagnostic records like x-rays taken before your treatment?
  2. As part of your treatment fee, do you receive any in-person visits to a dentist’s or orthodontist’s office during your treatment?
  3. Is only one treatment type offered (such as invisible aligners or a certain appliance)?
  4. What are the possible risks (financial, health, etc.) associated with your orthodontic treatment?
  5. Who is responsible for detecting any issues that may occur during your orthodontic treatment? Is it you? If it is a doctor not associated with your treatment, who pays for those check-ups?
  6. If an emergency arises, does the company have a dentist or orthodontist in your area that you can see in-person? If not, who would cover the costs associated with seeing a dentist or orthodontist in your area?
  7. If you are injured or have another dispute involving your orthodontic treatment, how is it handled (litigation, arbitration, etc.) and what rights do you have?
  8. Does the treatment model comply with the dental laws in your state? To check your state’s dental laws, click https://www.aaoinfo.org/state-laws-and-regulations. Information for your state dental board can be found at https://www.aaoinfo.org/aao/state-dental-board-info.

Where You Receive Your Health Care Is A Very Important Personal Decision

Remember that orthodontic treatment is not a product or device – it is a professional, medical service. Dr. Morrone and Dr. Kaye both earned their dental degrees (DDS) at Georgetown University and each went on to fulfil post-graduate residencies in Orthodontics. They have a commitment to regular continuing education and have years of experience providing high quality orthodontic treatment to their patients.

Before making any decision about orthodontic treatment, consider doing some research and having a complimentary in-person consultation at Morrone & Kaye Orthodontics. Our friendly team is waiting to answer any of your questions and start you or your child on a path to a gorgeous smile.

Early Orthodontic Treatment: It’s About More than Just the Smile

April 25th, 2018

Every parent wants their child to smile with confidence, and a consultation with your orthodontist is one of the best approaches to ensuring that goal. However orthodontic treatment, especially during your child’s younger years, has many benefits… beyond straight teeth and a healthy bite. At Morrone & Kaye we see children as young as seven, to prevent future issues and adjust for them before they become larger problems,  which are more difficult or invasive to treat. Early treatment can:

PREVENT OVERCROWDING:
Traditionally, orthodontists may wait until age 12 or 13 to treat a crowding problem, but the problem isn’t going to get any better by waiting. Through early treatment we can regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, creating additional space for permanent teeth. This can lessen or decrease the possibility of permanent tooth extractions, reduce the likelihood of impacted permanent teeth and can even help correct abnormal swallowing or speech problems.

AVOID CROSSBITES:
A crossbite is when you close your mouth and some of your upper teeth are sitting inside your lower teeth — rather than on the outside. A trained eye can see early on if crossbites will be an issue as the rest of your child’s permanent teeth come in. The earlier treatment begins, the easier it will be because your child’s jaw is less developed at this early age and can be guided along the right path rather than working to reverse issues at a later age.

SIMPLIFY TREATMENT:
Early treatment (Phase 1), when indicated, can simplify later treatment (Phase 2). Children who undergo early treatment often have a much shorter second phase of treatment once their permanent teeth come in. This makes life easier for both them and you as their schedules get busier and busier.

At Morrone & Kaye we strive to make children’s visits comfortable and positive:

  • No more goop! At Morrone & Kaye we have a state-of-the-art, iTero® Element™ digital scanner, which is used to take 3D impressions on each child, allowing us to permanently retire that uncomfortable, gooey, impression material we all (not-so-fondly) remember.
  • Family oriented: We strive to provide a positive, warm and friendly atmosphere to all of our patients, especially young children. We know that the first impressions we make can impact their attitude toward not only orthodontic care but also healthcare as a whole.
  • Two convenient locations: Morrone & Kaye Orthodontics has locations in Moorestown and Mount Holly, and serves the surrounding towns of Mount Laurel, Cherry Hill, Cinnaminson, Delran, Maple Shade, Lumberton, Burlington Township, Eastampton, Fort Dix and McGuire Air Force Base.

Invisalign or Braces: Which to Choose?

August 28th, 2017

Invisalign or Braces: Which to Choose?

We know that when it comes to straightening smiles, traditional braces are what might first come to mind. Yet we’re hearing more about Invisalign and Invisalign Teen, both from the company itself (Align Technology, Inc.) and from professional providers like orthodontists. In this post, I will discuss my perspective as well as the merits and drawbacks of each treatment.

Traditional Braces

In the past, traditional braces have been the only option to correct issues like crowding, spacing, overbite or underbite. Brackets cemented to the face of the tooth hold a wire that runs lengthwise to apply pressure, moving teeth into place with ties that secure wires to the brackets. A patient sees slight changes over time as the orthodontist makes adjustments every six to eight weeks.

Invisalign/Invisalign Teen

Invisalign and Invisalign Teen are clear BPA-free plastic appliances that offer patients an alternative to traditional metal, or even ceramic braces. Your orthodontist takes a digital scan of the teeth, creating a 3D image that’s used to produce a series of trays (aligners) made from a clear material worn by the patient almost all day (they should only be taken out to eat and brush/floss). Each aligner is configured to adjust the teeth according to a predetermined treatment plan mapped out by the orthodontist.

Benefits of Traditional Braces

  • Tried and true technology

  • Office visits every six to eight weeks

  • Compliance is virtually guaranteed as there are no decisions about whether to wear or not to wear them

Benefits of Invisalign/Invisalign Teen

  • Virtually invisible for aesthetic appeal

  • Office visits can often be spread out over fewer appointments

  • No limitations regarding food or oral hygiene

  • Most patients are candidates

Drawbacks of Traditional Braces

  • Metal (or even ceramic) brackets and wires are visible

  • Discomfort from poking wires or brackets that rub the inner portion of the lips

  • Broken brackets that cause “emergency appointments”

  • Oral hygiene more challenging

Drawbacks of Invisalign/Invisalign Teen

  • Compliance can sometimes be a challenge, especially with younger patients

  • Lost aligners can delay total treatment time

  • Must watch certain foods and beverages high in sugar/acid

What’s right for you

The decision to opt for Invisalign or Invisalign Teen over braces can be a difficult one and there are many factors to consider for both the patient and orthodontist. Invisalign allows for more freedom and is virtually invisible compared to braces, but compliance is key regarding successful results. Further, Invisalign may not be the best option for everyone.

Before making your decision, remember there are trade-offs with each treatment, and you will need to consult your orthodontist to determine the most effective option to perfect your smile!

BUILDING SELF ESTEEM AS WELL AS A SMILE

November 22nd, 2016

BUILDING SELF ESTEEM AS WELL AS A SMILE
By Dr. Richard Kaye

There is a lot of research out there about the benefits of orthodontics as it relates to increased self-esteem… especially in children. We all know that prior to treatment, many children smile with their mouth closed, or don’t smile at all, because they are self-conscious about their teeth. After orthodontics, they’re more comfortable not only with their smile, but also their overall appearance. This increases confidence, which carries over to their interactions with peers and adults.

However, not much attention is paid to maximizing self-esteem throughout the orthodontic experience. We focus significant energy in this area at Morrone & Kaye Orthodontics.

When children come to us for treatment, they need to leave Morrone & Kaye feeling like a winner. That’s the mission. We always create a magnificent smile, but we also make sure that the patient feels great about him or herself throughout treatment.

Here’s how:

  • We design treatment plans with success in mind. All children are unique, and the treatment chosen has to work with that child's personality.
  • We build rapport. We’re genuinely interested in what is going on in your child's life. It helps the entire process to be on the same page.
  • We are always aware that there is a child behind those teeth. We cannot be successful without paying attention to both.

Above all, we strive to be supportive when they’re getting used to being in treatment. Our goal is to become the cheerleading squad for our patients throughout treatment, and beyond.

Get Your Smile Back!

July 6th, 2016

Get Your Smile Back!

Did you have braces in the past? Remember the day the doctor took them off? Your face hurt from smiling so much. Your teeth felt huge and really smooth. It was AMAZING! But in the months and years that followed you might've forgotten (or refused!) to wear your retainer. Consequently your teeth have shifted, and you're hiding that once-amazing smile.

Are you ready to get your smile back?

Well, there's great news for you! It is never too late, whether you're wanting to fix your smile for a wedding, reunion, career advancement or just to feel your best. With new advancements in orthodontic treatment, you don't have to do it the same old way. Adults tend to have two main concerns: how long it will take and how you'll look through the process. There are two orthodontic products treatments for adults with busy lives; Invisalign® ‎and AcceleDent®‎.

If you are cosmetically minded: Invisalign is nearly invisible. No one needs to know you are wearing aligners! People will, however, notice your confidence boost! You can also eat what you please without the fear of food getting stuck or damaging your braces because the aligners are removable.

If you are of mindset that faster is better: AcceleDent may be perfect for you. If you've never heard of it, AcceleDent is an orthodontic treatment system that goes over the braces for 20 minutes each day to accelerate the work the braces are doing by up to 50%. Which means shorter time in treatment!

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. Don't let them get the wrong impression because you're too ashamed to show it! Perfecting your smile is a very individual process, let the professionals at Morrone & Kaye Orthodontics help you. You'll never regret fixing your smile, but you may regret how long you waited. Call the office today!

Invisalign - The Clear Choice for College Kids

March 25th, 2016

You've probably wanted straighter teeth for your child for a while, but metal braces are not an option you’re considering. That’s why we’re proud to provide Invisalign®, which offers the convenience and flexibility to get a straighter smile without the hassle.

Three major benefits of Invisalign include:

  1. More scheduling flexibility. Invisalign only requires office visits every 12 weeks (instead of 6-8 with traditional braces), so if your child is away from home for extended periods of time it may be a good option.

  2. Aligners come out when you need them to. Aligners can be removed when eating and brushing for better dental hygiene.

  3. It’s safer. Invisalign allows your child to continue wearing aligners without having to worry about any sharp brackets cutting their mouth. Further, if a mouthguard is needed for sports it will fit over the aligners.

You may be somewhat familiar with how the Invisalign® treatment works, but we’d like to take you through each step of the treatment process, from consultation to confident smile:

1) Talk to Drs. Morrone and Kaye
Choosing the right doctor and the right treatment plan is essential. Keep in mind that not all orthodontists and dentists have the same highly specialized training as Drs. Morrone and Kaye do.

2) A Customized Treatment Plan is Created
The doctor will take x-rays, pictures and digital scans of your child’s teeth, which Invisalign will use to create a digital 3-D image. From these images Drs. Morrone and Kaye will map out a precise treatment plan and the approximate length of treatment.

3) Receive Your Custom Aligners Based On Your Personalized Treatment Plan
Based on the treatment plan, a series of custom-made, clear aligners is then created. These aligners are made of a smooth, comfortable, BPA-free plastic that won't irritate the cheeks and gums like traditional metal braces often do.

4) Wear a New Aligner Every Two Weeks
Approximately every two weeks, your child will begin wearing a new set of aligners, advancing them to the next stage of your treatment. The aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day, throughout treatment. Drs. Morrone and Kaye can also prescribe a newer appliance called Acceledent, which has been shown to dramatically decrease treatment time.

5) Reveal Your New Smile & Keep It Looking Great
Once treatment is complete, we’ll need to protect that beautiful new smile. Drs. Morrone and Kaye will recommend the ideal retainers to keep your child’s teeth in their new position.

Morrone & Kaye Orthodontics has locations in Moorestown and Mount Holly, New Jersey, and serves the surrounding towns of Mount Laurel, Cherry Hill, Cinnaminson, Delran, Lumberton, Burlington Township, Eastampton, Fort Dix and McGuire AirForce Base.

The Importance of Correct Tongue Position

July 8th, 2015

Correct tongue position is extremely important in facial growth and development.  It not only impacts on the esthetics of the smile, but also can cause problems with speech and chewing.  While growing and throughout life, it is important for the tongue to be placed up against the roof of the mouth behind the upper front teeth all day and night, except when talking or chewing (see diagram below).  When the tongue is in the “letter n” position, the back teeth should not be touching.

Alternatively, when the tongue rests lower against the front teeth, it generally causes the roof of the mouth to grow in a more narrow fashion, contributing to a back cross-bite.  At the same time, the tongue can cause the front teeth not to overlap in the proper fashion (open bite).  Speech and function are largely affected by front tooth position.  Certain letters need the front teeth to properly touch in order to make speech clear.  Biting into thin foods with the front teeth can also be challenging when the front teeth do not touch.  A back cross-bite causes premature wear on the back molar teeth, often sending unbalanced bite forces through the teeth and setting up future gum and bone loss in these areas.

Letter “N” position – Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth directly behind your front teeth without pressing against your teeth and close your lips together, keeping your teeth separated.  This is how you should position your jaw all day! Your teeth should never touch one another unless you are chewing, otherwise you are clenching.

TIP: Place reminders in areas that you frequent to remind yourself to maintain the N-position.
